
Dr. de Rios employs cognitive and behavioral techniques to help alleviate pathologies and suffering of clients with whom she works. In her work with Latino immigrant clients as a transcultural specialist, Dr. de Rios helps to develop culturally-resonant interventions for those who emanate from other cultures.
She directs an anger management program for the Dept of Probation in Orange County, California. She oversees and teaches curriculum for court-referred clients based on materials that she has prepared for training purposes. These classes are available in English and Spanish.
A technique called “Visualization Strategies for Success” has been developed by her to improve individuals’ professional test-taking abilities. Pioneered by the U.S. Army with a focus on hypnotic suggestibility, the technique allays anxiety and enhances memory for professionals facing major licensing exams in a wide variety of fields.
Using techniques of hypnosis, Dr. de Rios has developed techniques for pain control that have been utilized by her during the l5 years that she directed counseling for the Burn Center at the University of California Irvine Medical Center. (see publications)
She also served as a Health Science Administrator (GS l4) at the National Institute of Mental Health in Rockville, Maryland. She was a transcultural consultant to the Metropolitan State Hospital, Norwalk California and the recipient of several grants and contracts.
Dr. De Rios holds a B.A. in Psychology from the City University of New York, a Masters of Art in Anthropology from New York University, and a Ph.D. from the University of California, Riverside. Dr. De Rios was a NIMH Post-Doctoral Fellow at the University of California, San Francisco and studied biofeedback with Dr. Joe Kamiya.
