Turkey and West Africa
As a graduate student, Dr. de Rios participated in archaeological fieldwork in Anatolia, Turkey.  Her research on women's ranking in Turkey was published while she was still a student. (see 1967, Social ranking in the woman's world of purdah. A Turkish example. Anthropological Quarterly 40:2:65-72.)  Her master's research at New York University (a library-based dissertation research) examined French colonial policy in West Africa and its effects on women (see l968, "Colonialism and the legal status of women in Francophonic Africa."
